Washing machines & tumble dryers

2018 – 2020

I led the industrial design lifecycle for a new generation of laundry care appliances, bridging the strategic corporate transition after Hisense’s acquisition of Gorenje. Acting as the bridge between European design and Asian manufacturing ecosystems, I oversaw everything from deep brand language analysis and ergonomic optimization to factory-floor quality control.

 + Global market impact

 + Mass production ready

 + Cross-cultural alignment

+ Brand Introduction on new market

1. Hisense Pure Stream Series (2019)

GOAL: Design an appliance line manufactured in Europe to spearhead Hisense’s strategic entry into the European and Australian premium markets.

The project demanded a profound understanding of brand design language, manufacturing complexities, and strict cost optimization. My role spanned developing initial concept directions, creating production-ready 3D models, collaborating with raw material suppliers, and conducting direct quality control on the assembly line to guarantee that visual execution aligned perfectly with premium design standards.

These appliances maintained a strong global presence across major retail networks and digital platforms like Amazon, proving their long-term market success.

Ergonomics & User Experience Redesign

The design focuses heavily on physical ergonomics and intuitive interactions:

  • Optimized Display Tilt: Increased the screen angle slightly toward the user to ensure effortless reading and control accessibility.

  • Intuitive Interface Architecture: Introduced a striking material and color contrast to create a clear visual boundary between functional control zones and non-interactive surfaces.

  •  Aesthetic Identity: Balanced manufacturing constraints with a distinct premium look that enhances usability while standing out on retail floors.

2. Gorenje Washer Dryer Redesign (2018–2019)

GOAL: Translate Hisense’s global hardware platform into a European context while preserving Gorenje’s rich, distinctive design heritage.

Following the corporate acquisition, the challenge was to take an existing Chinese technological platform and completely re-skin it for European consumer expectations. This meant diving deep into Gorenje’s design legacy to extract its visual DNA, then adapting those core elements to fit the strict engineering parameters of a shared global hardware platform.

Managing Cross-Cultural Complexity

Executing this strategy required highly sensitive design diplomacy and precise communication:

  • Silo-Breaking Collaboration: Acted as the core link between Slovenian engineering teams and Chinese corporate stakeholders to align expectations and design quality.

  • Interface & Feature Upgrades: Upgraded the control interface to reflect modern, minimalist European tastes while integrating more advanced digital functionalities.

  • Value Retention: Maintaining highly positive feedback from European distribution partners and consumers, successfully maintaining brand equity during a major corporate shift.

Market Validation & User Feedback

Both lines achieved market longevity, remaining highly rated on competitive e-commerce platforms. The combination of user-centric ergonomics (like the tilted display) and a premium, structured interface directly translated into strong sales performance and sustained brand trust.
